In a nutshell: National guidance is very clear that future education for people with diabetes must be “a planned and graded programme that is comprehensive in scope, flexible in content, responsive to an individual’s clinical and psychological needs and adaptable to his or her educational and cultural background” (NICE). It is extremely unlikely that a ‘one-size-fits-all’ programme would be able to meet such diverse educational needs well.  The St Helens & Knowsley Hospital Specialist Diabetes Team therefore offers a suite of educational options within DEAL to best meet the needs of local people with diabetes.
